Dr. Thomas Bwire Senior Economist

Dr. Bwire is CMI’s Senior Economist, where he joined since February 2020. Prior to his onboarding, he had served as a Senior Principal Economist at the Research Department of the Bank of Uganda for seven solid years and held tenure as lecturer at Makerere University for over 8 years to joining the Bank. Back in the days, he was a seasoned consultant with CMI and with Macroeconomic and Financial Management Institute (MEFMI) of Eastern and Southern Africa, offering short training courses. His research interests appeal to time series modelling, bringing the data to the complex econometric models without compromising the high scientific standards, monetary and fiscal policy diagnostics, economics of regional integration, development research, impact analysis, among others.

Dr. Bwire has published widely in the areas of econometric modelling, fiscal and monetary policies and economic growth, among others, in the Journal of Development Studies, Journal of China Tourism Research, and the African Statistical Journal; working papers with UNU-WIDER, Centre for Global Finance at SOAS University of London and Bank of Uganda; book chapters in edited volumes and edited volumes on applications to modelling and forecasting and special reports (various) with COMESA.

Thomas holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Nottingham, U.K on a prestigious 3-years Commonwealth Scholarship, M.A (Economics) from the University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania on a prestigious 2-yeara AERC scholarship and a B.A degree from Makerere University, Uganda.
